RP-SMA FEMALE Connector
RP-SMA Family
RP-SMA (Reverse Polarity SMA) uses the SMA threaded coupling mechanism but with the male/female pin convention reversed — the jack has a pin and the plug has a socket. Originally standardized to prevent connection of uncertified antennas to consumer WiFi equipment, RP-SMA is now the dominant connector on commercial WiFi routers, access points, and 2.4/5 GHz antennas.

Gender & Polarity Note
Check the product datasheet for gender and polarity details. RF connectors are available in male (pin), female (socket), and reverse-polarity (RP) variants.
Reverse Polarity (RP): The center pin and socket are swapped compared to the standard version. RP connectors are not intermateable with standard connectors of the same shell — use RP-to-RP assemblies throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions
What frequency range does the RP-SMA FEMALE connector support?
RP-SMA connectors are rated DC – 18 GHz. The effective upper frequency of a cable assembly is limited by the lowest-rated component — either the cable or the connector. Always verify both are within spec for your target frequency.
How many times can a RP-SMA connector be mated and unmated?
RP-SMA FEMALE connectors are rated for approximately 500 mating cycles. Exceeding this can cause wear on the contact surfaces, increasing insertion loss and VSWR. For applications with very frequent connects and disconnects, consider a connector rated for higher cycle counts.
What torque should I use to tighten a RP-SMA connector?
SMA connectors should be tightened to 3–5 in-lb (0.34–0.56 N·m) using a torque wrench. Over-tightening can damage the mating threads and distort the center contact.
Are the RP-SMA connectors on CoaxRF assemblies weatherproof?
Our standard cable assemblies use high-quality connectors suitable for most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications. For fully weatherproof outdoor installations, we recommend applying self-amalgamating tape over the connector junction to prevent moisture ingress.
