RP-TNC MALE Connector

RP-TNC Family

RP-TNC (Reverse Polarity TNC) uses the TNC threaded shell with reversed pin conventions, similar to RP-SMA. It is used on some commercial WiFi access points and outdoor CPE antennas, particularly in older Cisco and Linksys equipment, and offers better vibration resistance than RP-SMA in demanding outdoor environments.

Typical Applications

Older Cisco and Linksys access points and CPE antennas, outdoor WiFi bridge links, enterprise wireless equipment.

Gender & Polarity Note

Check the product datasheet for gender and polarity details. RF connectors are available in male (pin), female (socket), and reverse-polarity (RP) variants.

Reverse Polarity (RP): The center pin and socket are swapped compared to the standard version. RP connectors are not intermateable with standard connectors of the same shell — use RP-to-RP assemblies throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions

What frequency range does the RP-TNC MALE connector support?

RP-TNC connectors are rated DC – 11 GHz. The effective upper frequency of a cable assembly is limited by the lowest-rated component — either the cable or the connector. Always verify both are within spec for your target frequency.

How many times can a RP-TNC connector be mated and unmated?

RP-TNC MALE connectors are rated for approximately 500 mating cycles. Exceeding this can cause wear on the contact surfaces, increasing insertion loss and VSWR. For applications with very frequent connects and disconnects, consider a connector rated for higher cycle counts.

What torque should I use to tighten a RP-TNC connector?

Type N and TNC connectors should be tightened to 12–15 in-lb (1.36–1.70 N·m). Use a proper torque wrench for repeatable, reliable connections.

Are the RP-TNC connectors on CoaxRF assemblies weatherproof?

Our standard cable assemblies use high-quality connectors suitable for most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications. For fully weatherproof outdoor installations, we recommend applying self-amalgamating tape over the connector junction to prevent moisture ingress.

Do CoaxRF cables with RP-TNC MALE connectors ship assembled and tested?

Yes. Every cable assembly — including those terminated with RP-TNC MALE connectors — is hand-assembled and continuity tested before shipping. Cables ship free within the US from our US facility.
