Specifications
SMA MALE Connector
SMA Family
SMA (SubMiniature version A) is the most widely used RF connector in the industry, offering a threaded interface that provides a secure, low-reflection connection from DC to 18 GHz. Its compact size, 50-ohm impedance, and broad frequency range make it the default choice for WiFi equipment, software-defined radios, cellular antennas, GPS receivers, and RF test instruments.
Typical Applications
WiFi equipment, SDR dongles, cellular antennas, GPS receivers, RF test instruments, LNA and amplifier connections, laboratory coax assemblies.
Gender & Polarity Note
Check the product datasheet for gender and polarity details. RF connectors are available in male (pin), female (socket), and reverse-polarity (RP) variants.

Frequently Asked Questions
What frequency range does the SMA MALE connector support?
SMA connectors are rated DC – 18 GHz. The effective upper frequency of a cable assembly is limited by the lowest-rated component — either the cable or the connector. Always verify both are within spec for your target frequency.
How many times can a SMA connector be mated and unmated?
SMA MALE connectors are rated for approximately 500 mating cycles. Exceeding this can cause wear on the contact surfaces, increasing insertion loss and VSWR. For applications with very frequent connects and disconnects, consider a connector rated for higher cycle counts.
What torque should I use to tighten a SMA connector?
SMA connectors should be tightened to 3–5 in-lb (0.34–0.56 N·m) using a torque wrench. Over-tightening can damage the mating threads and distort the center contact.
Are the SMA connectors on CoaxRF assemblies weatherproof?
Our standard cable assemblies use high-quality connectors suitable for most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications. For fully weatherproof outdoor installations, we recommend applying self-amalgamating tape over the connector junction to prevent moisture ingress.
Do CoaxRF cables with SMA MALE connectors ship assembled and tested?
Yes. Every cable assembly — including those terminated with SMA MALE connectors — is hand-assembled and continuity tested before shipping. Cables ship free within the US from our US facility.
