TNC Male Angle Connector

TNC Family

TNC (Threaded Neill–Concelman) is the threaded version of BNC, offering improved performance up to 11 GHz and better vibration resistance through its screw coupling. It is commonly used in mobile radio antennas, avionics, and outdoor installations where BNC's bayonet lock would not provide sufficient mechanical security.

Typical Applications

Mobile radio antennas, aviation and military radios, outdoor wireless equipment requiring vibration resistance, some older GPS receivers.

Gender & Polarity Note

This is a Male connector — it has a center pin that inserts into a female socket. Male connectors are used on cable assemblies and pigtails that plug into equipment jacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What frequency range does the TNC Male Angle connector support?

TNC connectors are rated DC – 11 GHz. The effective upper frequency of a cable assembly is limited by the lowest-rated component — either the cable or the connector. Always verify both are within spec for your target frequency.

How many times can a TNC connector be mated and unmated?

TNC Male Angle connectors are rated for approximately 500 mating cycles. Exceeding this can cause wear on the contact surfaces, increasing insertion loss and VSWR. For applications with very frequent connects and disconnects, consider a connector rated for higher cycle counts.

What torque should I use to tighten a TNC connector?

Type N and TNC connectors should be tightened to 12–15 in-lb (1.36–1.70 N·m). Use a proper torque wrench for repeatable, reliable connections.

Are the TNC connectors on CoaxRF assemblies weatherproof?

Our standard cable assemblies use high-quality connectors suitable for most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications. For fully weatherproof outdoor installations, we recommend applying self-amalgamating tape over the connector junction to prevent moisture ingress.

Do CoaxRF cables with TNC Male Angle connectors ship assembled and tested?

Yes. Every cable assembly — including those terminated with TNC Male Angle connectors — is hand-assembled and continuity tested before shipping. Cables ship free within the US from our US facility.
